Introduction #
You are successfully registered for the Army AVD Program, but you experience issues when accessing the Army Azure Virtual Desktop through the Windows Remote Desktop application with your Common Access Card (CAC). Your CAC isn’t detected by the application. The laptop detects your card, but not within the application.
Issue: #
While using the Windows Remote Desktop application, you get a “certificate validation failed” error and cannot use your CAC to login and access the AVD environment. You can access the AVD web portal and other DS Logon required websites without issue.
Requirements #
- Windows PC
- Windows 11 24H2 currently installed
- CAC rearder
- CAC + pin
Resolution #
Ensure that CAC redirection is properly set up for your Army Azure Virtual Desktop session or that you are using the desktop app. Here are the steps you can follow:
- Right-click the Windows Start menu
- Select Settings
- Select Windows Update from the left navigation pane
- Select Update History
- Verify 2024-11 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 24H2 x64-bases Systems is displayed
- Scroll down to the bottom of your update history and select Uninstall Updates
- Select the ‘Update for Microsoft Windows (KB504740)‘ and select Uninstall
- Your computer may prompt you to restart or you may have to restart your computer manually
If you’ve gone through these steps and still face issues, it might be helpful to contact your S6 or the Army Enterprise Service Managed Platform (AESMP) (CAC Required) for further assistance, as there could be specific configurations needed for your Army AVD setup.
